Synopsis
Although the ivory-filled woodpecker is said to have become extinct several decades ago, a group of dedicated bird watchers from Brinkley, Arkansas, has trouble accepting the idea. With a single fuzzy photograph to go on, they take steps to submit a million-dollar preservation programme. The ghost bird, which no one has actually ever seen, becomes their obsession (and their meal ticket), drawing hundreds of visitors from all over the United States. A subtle, brilliant treatment of the fraught relationship between man and nature on our planet.
